Assembly and Finishing

The finish used on most of my sculptures is Tung Oil. It is highly durable and water resistant. I generally apply five coats and rub the surface in between coats with ever finer grades of steel wool. A few pieces are finished with at least three coats of Polyurethane Varnish.

Sculptures assembled from multiple pieces of wood are glued with furniture grade wood glue. Where metal is joined to wood, I use epoxy cement.

The copper wings on dragonflies are not coated and so they may oxidize over time to form a patina. I do not recommend polishing them. Their legs are made of copper wires and can bend if not treated gently.

All of this is to say that my sculptures are sturdy. They are not termite proof.
